Intensive Outpatient Program in East Tennessee

Intensive Outpatient Program in East Tennessee

What is an Intensive Outpatient Program?
An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a structured and comprehensive form of outpatient addiction treatment that provides individuals with a higher level of care and support compared to traditional outpatient therapy. IOPs are typically designed for individuals who require more intensive treatment than regular outpatient counseling but do not need the round-the-clock care provided in residential or inpatient programs.

English Mountain’s intensive outpatient program (IOP) is led by Master’s level clinicians who are dedicated to helping our clients find lasting recovery. IOP is recommended for people in recovery who have already completed a residential program or who have a strong support system and do not currently need a live-in program.

IOPs can be an effective option for individuals with substance use disorders, providing them with the tools, support, and guidance they need to achieve and maintain sobriety while continuing to meet their daily responsibilities.

Benefits of Intensive Outpatient Program for Addiction Recovery

IOPs can be effective for various mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and substance use disorders.

  • Structured Support: IOPs offer a structured treatment plan that typically includes group therapy, individual therapy, and educational sessions. This structure helps individuals develop coping skills, manage triggers, and address their specific issues.
  • Holistic Approach: Many IOPs take a holistic approach to treatment, addressing the physical, emotional, and social aspects of a person’s life. This can lead to a more comprehensive and lasting recovery.
  • Peer Support: Group therapy is a core component of IOPs, allowing participants to connect with others who are facing similar challenges. Peer support can be a powerful motivator and source of understanding.

Components of Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in East Tennessee

  • Assessment and Evaluation: On admission to our IOP Program, each client is provided with a weekly therapist and client liaison to guide them through the program. You will check in with the liaison at the beginning of the program and meet again a few times before discharge, to make sure the best aftercare plan is in place.
  • Program Flexibility: IOPs offer more flexibility compared to inpatient programs, allowing individuals to continue with their daily routines, such as work, school, or family responsibilities, while still receiving intensive treatment. Participants in our intensive outpatient program for substance abuse are involved in a minimum of 15 hours of recovery programs initially. Evening groups are available.
  • Program Compliance: Random drug testing is also part of English Mountain Recovery’s IOP Program process.
  • Group Therapy: Clients in IOP in East TN initially attend group therapy every night for the first two to three weeks. On the nights they are not in the group, integration into community recovery meetings takes place. IOP is transitional and includes two specific step-down phases.
  • Individual Therapy: In addition to group sessions, each client has individual therapy sessions with a licensed therapist to address their specific needs, set goals, and work on personalized treatment plans. English Mountain Recovery’s IOP Program is dedicated to providing optimal care for each client’s unique needs, and we are proud of our ability to do this!

Therapy Approach at English Mountain Recovery

Our IOP program offers a combination of treatment modalities to provide the best-personalized treatment option for our clients. The treatment modalities include the following:

  • Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is a widely used and highly effective form of psychotherapy that focuses on helping individuals identify and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. CBT is based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, and by changing our thoughts and behaviors, we can influence our emotional and psychological well-being. CBT is typically a short-term, goal-oriented therapy approach that is often used to treat a wide range of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, phobias, and other emotional or behavioral challenges.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), a specialized form of CBT, helps people with various emotional regulation and impulse control issues, including those with mood disorders, self-destructive behaviors, and addiction. DBT combines elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy with concepts from dialectics, which are the principles of finding balance and resolution between opposing ideas.
  • Trac9 Relapse Prevention: At English Mountain Recovery, we know that a relapse prevention plan is a critical part of maintaining sobriety for any recovering addict. Trac9 looks at 9 different areas: depression, anxiety, stress, the visual response to cravings, the verbal response to cravings, spirituality, commitment to sobriety, optimism, and quality of life. • Experiential Therapy: a type of therapeutic approach that involves engaging individuals in hands-on, interactive activities as a means of exploring and addressing emotional and psychological issues.
    • Examples include meditation, process groups, and yoga.
  • Individual and Group Therapy: With small group sizes of no more than 10 clients, each individual has the opportunity to receive personalized treatment and support.
